Jennie was the daughter of Eugene and Elizabeth Carlton. Born around 1864, likely in Hancock County, Georgia, she doesn’t appear again until 1887 in Fulton County, when she married her husband Charles Weldon. Jennie was a laundress, seamstress, and nurse by trade and Charles was a brick mason, painter, and Baptist clergyman. For approximately 40 years, Jennie and Charles were members of the Edgewood community of DeKalb County, where a large number of Jennie’s family the Carltons lived.

Charles and Jennie’s daughter Bess moved to Chicago sometime after 1920 and while there married a man named Pink Cornogg. He passed away in
1927 and based on both a burial record and his death certificate, we can assume he was buried in Section 6 in the Weldon family lot.

The Carlton, Farrell, Howard, Love/Scott, Weldon, and White families of Section 6 are all connected, through marriage or blood, by two Howard sisters, Ella Howard White and Carrie Howard Love Scott.
